No matter what their origin story might be, the Leffords today are a great Westerlands family, with their small but strong castle vigilantly watching the hill road and (according to the AGOT Appendix) the gold of the Golden Tooth greatly enriching House Lannister (and probably the Leffords in turn). These details might suggest that King Cerion gave the Golden Tooth to the loyal Leffords, the king perhaps judging that a lord who owed everything he had to Cerion’s largesse (and who, perhaps, was his kinsman by marriage) could be trusted to guard this most important passage into the Westerlands. In TWOIAF, Yandel writes that House Lefford (alongside a number of other Houses, including the Jasts and Braxes) was formed from an Andal-First Men union (possibly, though not explicitly stated, between a Lannister princess and an Andal warlord), and notes that King Cerion Lannister “extended his rule as far east as the Golden Tooth and its surrounding hills, defeating three lesser kings when they made an alliance against him”. House Lefford is a noble House of the Westerlands, sworn to the Lannisters of the Rock.
